Curriculum Map - Social Studies Research

Updated: Jul 5, 2021

For my curriculum map, I chose to use the ISBE Social Studies standards that deal with historical inquiry. I have wanted to focus on research skills more and more as this is an area 8th graders struggle with. This project was very useful as this is something I had been wanting to do anyway. I found that the ISTE standards supported the social studies standards I used very well. Together, they go hand in hand and just make sense to use together. This allowed me to select technology tools that would best serve my students. I was able to incorporate projects I already do, but transform them with the integration of technology which I hadn't done in the past as well but also create new ideas as well. I'm excited to implement this in the fall!

I also found this project to be very useful because I really wanted to see how my content standards would line up with the ISTE standards. This will really benefit us in future planning and allows us to use it as sample. I liked that you incorporated previous projects and I hope see great changes in the fall.

I also found it easy to connect the ISTE standards to the math standards. Very nice that they seem to go together so well across the content areas. I also feel the same way about looking at things I already do through the lens of more intentionally incorporating technology that can elevate what I am already doing.
