For this challenge, it focused a lot on Learning Standards, which is good and well, but it doesn't always fit for music classes, specifically performing ensembles. When it comes down to it, in my band, we primarily address 3 of the 11 learning standards and they all pertain to performing. Occasionally we might hit some others concerning responding, but as a performing ensemble....our primary focus is performing. With that said, I was able to come up with some ideas that could be used in a performing ensemble course. One thing I did notice was that I'm not using a wide of a variety of tech tools. I've only got a few different notation programs and presentation tools as well as a couple things to help students practice. I feel like a lot of the music-specific tech that has been shared in this class is harder to meet the standards, at least with high school students, but maybe I'm just not creative enough!

I love learning new things from you guys! I love that you did not just stop at 6 and that you went above and beyond to do 11. That's wonderful! I also had the same issue for my varied media column. I use the same items to teach and I grouped mine together as well! You did a great job!
Nice job, Nigel; as a fellow music teacher, it's fun to see all the different ways we handle our 11 Anchor Standards. I like your idea for the 4-part chorales. Never too early to start students on counterpoint:)
That is sometimes frustrating as a fine arts teacher (I used to teach art) that sometimes the standards feel like they were written without keeping those subjects in mind. I feel like you did a great job thinking outside the box and finding meaning connections though. Nice job!
I can see your map now and it's funny how similar our thinking was! I was brainstorming a similar historical activity using some of the same technology but I ended up not using that idea. I love the way you designed that presentation project for students. I love your ideas all around! I wanted to check out your curriculum map to be able to share ideas with another music educator.
Hey Nigel! I think your map is set to private.
