Curriculum Map for the Standards of Mathematical Practice

Writer's picture: Laura GrimesLaura Grimes

I teach so many different classes that I wanted to be able to think of it in the context of all the classes I teach. Therefore, I decided to look at it through the 8 Standards of Mathematical Practice in the CCSS. When looking at the ISTE Student Standards, it was very apparent that so many of them aligned with the Standards of Mathematical Practice.

I looked at the CCSS for mathematical practices too for our problems of practice challenge; and you are definitely right- they match the ISTE standards almost exactly! I struggled a little more with matching the ISTE standards to my content standards. I focused on kindergarten and found that a lot of them felt like they didn't apply... yet. It is great that you found a way to do this project so that it applied to all of the classes that you teach. Excellent job!

You're so right about the connection from the math standards to the ISTE standards. I could read across from the standard to content learned to ISTE standard and they were all just the same thing reworded. That's going to be very helpful for you moving forward.

I really liked how you are applying the mathematical standards to a project-based learning approach with your business proposal: I think that is a great way to show your students how the math that they learn helps them in life! One of the hardest aspects for all of us is trying to make our content relevant. I think your approach along with combining it with technology will really set them up for success in the future.
