I had posted this in the Forum on Thursday, but I wasn't sure if it also needed to be posted here. :)
Find #1: I learned that not all chats listed on the schedule are still active. You need to vet them just as you would certain sites that may nolonger be in use. I found a chat that I was excited to join, but in doing a little digging realized that the chat moderator is not hosting the chat anymore.
Find #2: I found that my Twitter chat skills are very rusty since I sadly I have not used them much since TCH401. At first I kept forgetting to include the @ symbol and then the chat moderator's handle so that others in the chat saw my posts in the feed (I was wondering why no one had commented on them). Then I had to go back and copy and paste the Tweets correctly which took up a bit of time and then I was playing catch up in the chat. However, the chat moderator was very helpful and guided me in the right direction so I could get back into the swing of things.
Find #3: In the chat that I participated in I learned of a new educational model that I was unfamiliar with; "The Engagement Model". Aspects of it reminded me very much of UDL and the chat moderator has offered to send me additional literature about the model to my email.
Find #4: After my experiences searching for, vetting, and participating in a Twitter chat after a long hiatus, I figured the only way to get better was with more practice. I found another chat on educational technology that I thought would be interesting and contacted the moderator to confirm the date and time. I am looking forward to working out the kinks and becoming a more competent Twitter chat participant.
Find #5: I really liked how in the "Getting Started" video for Twitter the woman said that you could think of it like this "Facebook was for people you know, but Twitter was for people you WISH you knew". I think that is such a cool way of putting it. On Twitter you are able to connect to such awesome people professioanlly that you would otherwise not be able to. I was able to get inspired and connect with people this past week. Exciting! #F5F #tch432
