Now at the completion of this class, I am looking forward to continuing my activity on Twitter. I have really enjoyed the new chats that I have found and taken part in #SENexchange#PrimarySTEMChat. I also plan to keep up with my colleagueas in this class by following the hashtag #tch432. I am amazed at how much we were able to accomplish in just four short weeks!
Find #5: I really liked how in the "Getting Started" video for Twitter the woman said that you could think of it like this "Facebook was for people you know, but Twitter was for people you WISH you knew". I think that is such a cool way of putting it. On Twitter you are able to connect to such awesome people professioanlly that you would otherwise not be able to. I was able to get inspired and connect with people this past week. Exciting!
Find #4: After my experiences searching for, vetting, and participating in a Twitter chat after a long hiatus, I figured the only way to get better was with more practice. I found another chat on educational technology that I thought would be interesting and contacted the moderator to confirm the date and time. I am looking forward to working out the kinks and becoming a more competent Twitter chat participant.
Find #3: In the chat that I participated in I learned of a new educational model that I was unfamiliar with; "The Engagement Model". Aspects of it reminded me very much of UDL and the chat moderator has offered to send me additional literature about the model to my email.
Find #2: I found that my Twitter chat skills are very rusty since I sadly I have not used them much since TCH401. At first I kept forgetting to include the @ symbol and then the chat moderator's handle so that others in the chat saw my posts in the feed (I was wondering why no one had commented on them). Then I had to go back and copy and paste the Tweets correctly which took up a bit of time and then I was playing catch up in the chat. However, the chat moderator was very helpful and guided me in the right direction so I could get back into the swing of things.
Find #1: I learned that not all chats listed on the schedule are still active. You need to vet them just as you would certain sites that may nolonger be in use. I found a chat that I was excited to join, but in doing a little digging realized that the chat moderator is not hosting the chat anymore.
Update: I was all excited, I got the kiddos to bed, and got logged into my computer, but I do not think the #spedchat that was on the schedule is still active. The moderator for that chat has not tweeted anything since May. I was a little concerned at first because I guess she had Covid and it was a pretty severe case from the sound of her tweets. There was a threaded discussion with over 65 days of updates on her condition. So, I looked her up on Facebook and she is okay and posted there this afternoon. So maybe she is just choosing to take a break from the chat for the summer? Not sure. Either way, I will check out the one tomorrow at 2pm. I already had someone respond to me that it was at 8pm U.K. time and according to Google that is 2pm here, so I will give that one a go.
So far I am trying to "dip my toes" back into the the river of Twitter. I really enjoyed using the chat feature while in TCH401, so I am looking forward to getting back into that. However, it took my awhile to find a group that "fit" before. I taught 5th grade general education for the past six years, but actually really ended up connecting with and enjoying the #6thchat. I also have a 4 year old and a 1.5 year old running around the house, so trying to find a chat that takes place after they are in bed is also helpful. That way I can truly focus on and enjoy the chat.
Since I aqm switching to special education this year, I am looking to find a new chat group to join that will be more relevant to my new position. As of right now I have located two potential chats. One takes place toinight at 8pm and the other is tomorrow at 2pm. Which also could work since both of my girls SHOULD (key word) be napping then. Hopefully one, or both, of those will work out.
