Week 4 #F5F

Number 1:

This week I dove way to far into a conversation and when I was done scrolling through the comments, I was pretty unsettled by some of the opinions that people have of us teachers. I want to know everyone’s opinion on this so I shared it asking for opinions. What do you think?

Number 2:

I have discovered a few ways to add google maps to my classroom. We use maps to talk about distance/rate/time, scales, etc. However, I have never thought about using Google Maps to make it digital. Now, I will.

Number 3:

I also found this conversation interesting. What do you think about it? It is such a double edged sword.

Number 4:

I also really enjoyed this article as well. I think we have so much focus on the grade and the students are just regurgitating what we are teaching that they do not actually focus on learning the content. I agree with his second point on “delaying the grade”. I have been thinking about changing the way I do my grading this year because some things just worked this past year.

Number 5:

Another find (thanks Twitter) is this article on having a mistake friendly classroom. I think that is important to think about. Too many times our kids are afraid of messing up so they just don’t do it or they generate so much anxiety about it. Showing kids that mistakes are okay and then showing them how to fix it is just as important as their learning the content. This kind of goes hand in hand with my number four post and delaying the grade to allow for corrections.
