Week 3 - #F5F

  1. Live Twitter Chats - So, I was unable to participate in a live chat this week, but I did join two new Facebook groups specifically geared towards Orchestra Directors. It is my plan to share some of my ideas from this class in those groups in hopes of getting some feedback and (hopefully) inspiring other educators. I remain on the lookout for a Twitter Community designed for orchestra directors, but I have yet to find one.

  2. Quote of the Week - "Just start it. Just start it, and if it doesn't work, try it again a different way." - Matthew Shaffer, on his Pass the Baton YouTube interview. Mr. Shaffer was talking about how teachers need to be fearless when it comes to pioneering creative solutions in the classroom. He was talking specifically about implementing improvisation techniques in his string orchestra, but I think his advice can be heeded in any classroom context.

  3. Article of the Week - This blog post, "How to get started with Hybrid Teaching," by Rachelle Dene Poth, someone I have recently begun following on Twitter, serves as a great primer for any teacher setting up their virtual classroom. She has a lot of helpful links and resources, and the content is explained really well.

  4. Video of the Week- I've really enjoyed finding the Pass the Baton interview series on YouTube, and their most recent interview was with Dr. Sarah Gulish. They are finishing up a 3-part series on Creativity and Improvisation in the Ensembles, a topic I am very passionate about.

  5. GIF of the Week - 3 weeks in; 1 week to go. I'm starting to feel much more comfortable with the material being covered and seeing ways I can begin incorporating it in the coming year.
