Week 1 Find 1:

One of the librarians I follow on Twitter is Jennifer Lagarde. ISTE shared a tweet with information about her upcoming book “Fact vs. Fiction.” I am always on the lookout for incorporating digital citizenship into the curriculum, so I thought I would save this for future reference. I also plan to keep following the hashtag #digcit to see what other resources arise throughout the course.

Week 1 Find 2:

Another educator I follow is Dr. Kristen Mattson who primarily advocates for digital literacy and recently published a book about teaching digital ethics. I’m going to include two of her posts for my Week 1 Find 2, because both related to ideas I have been thinking about. One of her posts was about embedding #digcit into the math classroom. I found it helpful to read through the article and see how digital citizenship could be integrated in a unique way.

The second post I read pointed me to the article “The right to be forgotten: Should teens’ social media posts disappear as they age?”. Creating a digital footprint has been one area I have been considering over the last year as school and communication moved online with remote learning. In addition to SOPPA regulations trying to protect students, this article also made me consider the possibility of helping students clear their past digital history. The article points out other ways society protects students and children prior to becoming adults and is an interesting starting point for a conversation about digital footprints and digital citizenship.

Week 1 Find 3:

There are several hashtags I follow, including #edchat, #tlchat, and #futurereadylibs. However, I realized I had not followed the general #FutureReady for Future Ready schools, so I started following @FutureReady on Twitter as well. I also plan to following #ISTElib, #kidlit, #weneeddiversebooks, #newslitcamp, #newsliteracy, and #studentengagement

Week 1 Find 4:

In following #edtech, I also came across #edtechchat. I follow Jennifer Gonzalez for education practices and saw this retweet of one of her article from a few years ago. It is a practical guide to collaborating on integrating technology into the classroom.

Week 1 Find 5:

Here was another article from the #edtechchat which highlighted the challenges of digital equity. More than being about access to technology, this article focuses on what students can do with technology. Providing opportunities to create and participate with technology is another factor in addition to lack of access or resources.
