For years I have tried to find a way to get my students to actively listen, create deeper discussions on musicality, and really express their creativity. Our discussions were quite short, and of zero depth. In the past I have sporadically done small assignments in an attempt to help, but there was never much success because I didn't really push it. I feel like this integration project will really help my students. It will be a progression throughout the year to help grow their abilities to think and discuss.
For this project, I followed the Grounded Theory Approach. I first though of my end product, the cover art project. I then thought about how to best help my students. I wanted to start with me being there to help guide them, then slowly move towards more independent thinking. I thought of new ideas to help reach out to the students and have them think in a new way. I then filled out the plan by creating smaller projects to lead up to the cover art project. We will be using Soundtrap in a new way (Podcasts). I am giving students some option in tools, the end result will be the same but the tool choice is up to them. By the end of this, I anticipate much deeper thinking, thorough discussions, and the ability to listen to music in a much deeper way. What better way to show your growth in creativity than to create visual art about your aural art?
This is amazing! I really like that each week they are listening to a song and creating a podcast to talk about their interpretation and emotion. Also, the cover art project will bring everything together.
