Week 3 - #F5F

This week, I found myself really interacting with people more on Twitter than just browsing. I am becoming more comfortable being a part of the community rather than just observing or reading through things. I found some great people, organizations and resources this week!

Find #1

#ISTElive - This week I have been following along with the #ISTElive hashtag. I had no idea this conference was going on this week but have learned so many great things that others have posted from it. There are many great resources being shared even if you are not actually attending the conference. Now that I know about it, I would love to attend next year. The sessions sound intriguing and there are so many sessions that are social studies specific that I would benefit from.

Find #2

Mindshift - This Twitter account was one that was suggested to me through “Recommended.” MindShift is a podcast, but the Twitter feed has articles about teachers and students which stood out to me. One article I read talked about how to post-COVID way of doing things is much more beneficial for students rather than the way things were before the pandemic. Students feel much more supported with how things have changed.

Find #3

Ditch that textbook - I came across someone mention this book for getting rid of reliance on textbooks. I loathe reading out of the textbook every day and this book sounds like it provides ways to get away from that with support from EdTech and creative teaching. I ordered the book and can’t wait to read it and share it with colleagues. They also share some great resources on different ways to integrate technology into your curriculum.

Find #4

EduTopia also has some great resources for educators. One that stood out to me this week was on emotional support for teachers. I think a lot of times that gets put on the backburner compared to our students, but it is something just as important. It is very easy to not take care of yourself but since we are a team we need to make sure we are looking out for each other and supporting what we all need.

Find #5

@MsJachymiak - This is a "re-find," hopefully it still counts. I have learned more about Twitter in education from following her than any other source. Susan really pushed Twitter as a resource in our class last summer and has seen some great results from using it. She uses Twitter to positively interact with others from across the world and it is pretty inspiring. I'm always learning cool things from what she shares!
