I have started my Technology Integration Plan. I will probably change the format and display to fit all the required information better. This was planned based off of the Grounded Theory Approach.
I have always struggled to get my students to think about the music they are playing in a deep way. I have tried to work on this in the past. Step 1 was about as far as I would get up until this year. I assigned the video to watch and asked the two questions. Then on occasion I would ask students how they felt about a song that was about it. This year I pushed it a little more by having students listen to a song and describe the emotions/ story they saw in the head to the class. I want to push the students further on this. I think by making a short, weekly lesson where we listen to music together and I lead them through a discussion until they are more comfortable will help. Then back away and have them work as partners, then on their own. The final step would be going on Canva and creating an album art based off one of our songs to use as our album cover would be a nice way to display their creativity and show they are able to think about the music a little more deeply.
Items used: YouTube for the first assignment, any media source for step 2 (Spotify, for example), Google Docs, Canva.
Any suggestions on ANYTHING would be greatly appreciated! Any way to make this more tech. based? I feel like the only tool being used is Canva. Would any other tools other than Canva be good for creating album art? Am I missing anything?
Thanks!!
Tyler, this is a great idea! I think this can be something that can be used across different disciplines, not only in music. A lot of students have a hard time expressing themselves and their feelings when watching/listening to things and struggle reflecting. Having them create their own artwork helps them take ownership of their learning and also allows them to express what they are feeling in a nonverbal way.
You might want to check out Adobe Spark to possibly use. It is similar to Canva would be another tool for students to choose from.
Tyler, really cool idea transitioning from a discussion into a visual art project! I'll say, trying to get students to speak on how music affects them or makes them feel is like pulling teeth. No matter how I try to prompt my students, a vast majority just stare at me blankly as if they've never been moved by music!
Sticking with the album artwork, you could maybe have a discussion about some album covers they know (and don't know). That way you can discuss how the music affects them, but also how the artwork affects them. Then try to marry those two feelings (music and artwork)? That may be another way to reach them. I would definitely suggest you start…
