Amy, I really appreciated reading your problems of practice. I've been trying to incorporate many of the things you discussed into my class so I appreciated a different perspective. You have some great ideas to help your students with some of these difficult concepts!
I thought that your map was very organized and easy to follow. The color coordination was a nice added touch. I think the variety of strategies and tools you have included will definitely help your students gain mastery in these areas. Awesome job!
Your map gives great insight in overcoming problems with literacy and research. Using both the directive and constructive approaches also is a good benefit for students. Introducing your students to electronic databases and even going further with a university site, like Milner, is great prep and practice for your students.
I particularly liked and was drawn to your explanations of your strategies. I like that there is a strong mix of both directive and constructive used throughout your process and the benefits those strategies have for students.
I think you hit on a lot of good ways to approach research and prewriting issues with students. I also think Google Apps are a good way to approach it because of the ability for students to collaborate with one another while they work. It can make it a lot easier for them to share ideas with one another and to make sure their research does not get lost!
