I believe the title says it all. Sometimes people are afraid to change and are afraid to be different. It pays to be different and teach against the grain. You do not have to take away from your curriculum or from your overall goals, but being stuck in the ”norm” of teaching may be taking away from what your kids can learn. Do not be afraid to be different. Embrace it and roll with it. Your kids will thank you.
Feeling as though you belong to the community you teach in is very important. In my community, I know I will be heard and I know that if I need anything, I will be able to ask without needing to hesitate. If you are unhappy, you are not the only one who suffers from it. I have seen many students suffer because of negativity and unhappiness of their teachers.
After this year, EVERYONE should be able to add several items to their resumes. I know I can add expert multitasker, haha. As if teachers already did not have that talent before this year!
The very first line of this article says it all: "The more reflective you are, the more effective you are." This article takes you through the steps one should take that will help you become a better reflective teacher. My favorite is the collaboration part. I love collaborating with my coworkers and using them to reflect upon my day. It is instant feedback and they are honest.
This retweet focused on breaks. You should not feel bad about looking forward to your breaks. I love my breaks. I love my job with everything in me, however, I need a break. We work hard and we should not feel bad for taking our breaks with pride. The world makes it out that we do not need the breaks and we get into our career path because we get summers off. Well, come do what we do and tell me you do not need the breaks. We do more than a years worth of work in 9 months. And little do many know, we work quite a bit during our breaks too. a lot of teachers continually evolve and strive to be better. Do not be ashamed to take your breaks ladies and gentlemen!
